
Biography :
Dr. Krisztina Szabó is an Associate Professor and dendrologist at the Department of Garden and Open Space Design, Institute of Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning and Garden Art, Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE), Budapest, Hungary. She earned her PhD in 2008 and has extensive experience in horticulture, landscape architecture, and urban forestry. Prior to joining academia, she worked as a plant collection manager at the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden and later as a development specialist in Hungary’s agricultural sector. Her research focuses on urban and drought-tolerant plant species, climate-resilient trees, dendrology, sustainable landscape design, ecosystem services, invasive species, and the evaluation of woody taxa in urban environments. She is also a qualified tree assessment specialist, conducting visual and instrumental tree health and safety evaluations. Her recent studies examine climate-adapted trees, urban biodiversity, foliage retention, and the role of vegetation in climate-change adaptation. In addition to her research, Dr. Szabó is actively involved in teaching plant knowledge, plant application, and landscape design courses, contributing significantly to the advancement of sustainable urban green infrastructure and environmental stewardship in Hungary and beyond.
